orphans in Vietnam awaiting adoption
I am writing to request your prayers for 16 orphaned children living in a Vietnamese orphanage who await release from the orphanage by American and Vietnamese officials to the loving American homes who have been waiting to adopt the children for nearly three years. Will you please read this very brief story about the situation that these children are in right now and offer your prayers for them?
Baby Thao was abandoned and left in an orphanage in a very small, very poor, rural area of Vietnam when she was just a few months old. Angie M. of West Palm Beach, Florida, was matched with Baby Thao for an international adoption. It was a joyful day to get Thao's 8-month old baby picture, her weight, a little bit of information about her. It was an answer to Angie's prayers for a baby girl to love. Angie and all of her family and friends cried with joyful tears knowing that there was a new addition to their family.
That was nearly three years ago. Baby Thao is now three and a half years old and still living in the same Vietnamese orphanage while the American and Vietnamese governments hold up the adoptions of Thao and 15 other children for a variety of ever changing "reasons," none ever holding much water and none sounding like good explanations. The adoptions are legal. The babies need homes. The families are anxious to have the children home with them. Will you please pray for the unification of these children with their adoptive families?
Specifically, I ask for these prayers:
The children have no mattresses. They sleep on the open slats of their cribs or on the linoleum floors. They have no blankets, no pillows, no plush toys, and are held very, very little by any comforting, soft arms.
Please pray that the children find comfort.
The children suffer from disease and malnutrition. They have had a scabies outbreak and have scratched their flesh until it has scarred. Their hair has been cut short to prevent the spread of lice. The children are fed watery rice from one, shared bowl, each receiving a few spoonfuls at a time. The shy and unassertive even less at times. They have no fresh food, little milk, and little other nutritional supplements. The children are underweight. Their teeth have decayed to little, black stumps.
Please pray that the children are healed and do not suffer from pain, hunger, or discomfort.
The children rarely have conversations or are spoken to by their caregivers who themselves have very little resources or education. The children are displaying language delays and learning difficulties. They have few toys and stimulating activities. Their caregivers frequently have Vietnamese soap operas playing loudly on the television in the background.
Please pray for the children's intellectual and emotional development.
Although abandoned by their biological families, these 16 children have been matched with adoptive families in the United States who have been anxiously and prayerfully awaiting their release from Vietnam. The stress from the financial burden alone is great for these families but the stress of knowing that your child is not with you and is suffering each day that he or she remains in the orphanage is unimaginable. The news about the adoptive process changes daily, sometimes hourly. It is an emotional roller coaster ride.
Please pray for peace, hope, faith, and comfort for the adoptive families of these children.
Please pray that the children are soon united with the loving families that await them.
