You Must Be Born Again.

This line, taken from an exclusive dialogue between Nicodemus and Jesus, strikes at the heart of Jesus’teaching. What does it mean to be born again? Surely not in the physical sense. To be born again means to be entirely new, to have new eyes, new hands, new heart. When I wake up each day, I should try to look tat the world and others as though I’m looking at them for the first time, like a newborn. This entails forgetting the past wrongs, my prejudices and all mistakes both mine and others. This means starting from scratch. This means forgiveness. This means giving others the chance to begin again. This means living the present moment as the only valid and real moment. The past is past, the future is not yet and the only reality is today, now.
Lord, it is a constant challenge to be renewed, to look at the world with ever new eyes. Human beings as we are, awe have memories of hurts and wrongs. We carry them like old loads from yesterday’s unfinished agenda. But the grace to be born again allows me to precisely erase such memories, to start each day with a clean slate.
